Recovered historical report
A delegation of 60 Christians from Najran came to Madinah. They wore silk robes and gold rings. They debated the nature of Jesus with the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet invited them to Islam, but they insisted that Jesus was the son of God. Allah revealed verses in Surah Al ‘Imran: “Indeed, the example of Jesus in the sight of Allah is like that of Adam…” The Prophet then challenged them to mubahalah (mutual cursing), where both parties would invoke Allah’s curse on the liars. They agreed but backed out the next morning, fearing that Muhammad was truly a prophet. They made peace, agreeing to pay jizyah.
