Recovered historical report
During the distribution of spoils, a man named Dhu al-Khuwaysirah from the tribe of Tamim approached the Prophet ﷺ and said, “Be just, O Muhammad.” The Prophet ﷺ replied, “Woe to you! Who will be just if I am not?” ‘Umar asked permission to kill him. The Prophet ﷺ said, “No. He will have companions who will recite the Quran but it will not go beyond their throats. They will leave Islam as an arrow leaves the bow. You will belittle your prayer compared to theirs.” This man was the first of the Khawarij (extremists) who later rebelled against ‘Ali.

Reminder: Dhu al-Khuwaysirah was rebuked for accusing the Prophet of injustice. The Prophet was the most just.

Working practical step: Check your own heart: do you judge others harshly while excusing yourself? Repent.
