Recovered historical report
After Hunayn, the Prophet ﷺ distributed the enormous spoils. He gave generously to the newly converted leaders of Quraish to win their hearts: Abu Sufyan, Safwan bin Umayyah, ‘Uyaynah bin Hisn, al-Aqra‘ bin Habis, and others. Some received 100 camels each. The Ansar received nothing. This upset some Ansar. The Prophet ﷺ gathered them and said, “O Ansar, are you upset because I gave these people worldly goods to win their hearts while I entrust you to your Islam? Are you not pleased that others go with sheep and camels while you go with the Messenger of Allah?” They wept and said, “We are pleased.” The Prophet ﷺ then prayed for them.
