Recovered historical report
The Prophet ﷺ dreamt that he entered Makkah and performed ‘Umrah. He announced to his Companions that they would go for ‘Umrah. About 1,400 men set out, dressed in ihram, carrying only swords for travel. The Quraish heard of their approach and sent an army to block them. The Prophet ﷺ took a detour and camped at Hudaybiyyah, on the border of the sacred area. He sent ‘Uthman bin ‘Affan to negotiate. The Quraish detained ‘Uthman, and a rumour spread that he was killed. The Prophet ﷺ took a pledge from the Muslims to fight to the death – the Pledge of Ridwan (Good Pleasure) under a tree. Allah revealed that He was pleased with the believers.
