Recovered historical report
The Quraish sent Suhayl bin ‘Amr to negotiate. The treaty terms seemed humiliating to the Muslims: 1. No fighting for 10 years. 2. Any Quraishi who becomes Muslim without his guardian’s permission must be returned. 3. Any Muslim who leaves Islam and goes to the Quraish will not be returned. 4. The Muslims will return this year without performing ‘Umrah, but may come next year for three days. ‘Umar bin al-Khattab was furious. He asked the Prophet, “Are we not on the truth?” The Prophet replied, “Yes.” “Are they not on falsehood?” “Yes.” “Then why should we accept such humiliation?” The Prophet said, “I am the Messenger of Allah, and I will not disobey Him.” ‘Umar later regretted his words and spent years in charity to atone.

meUus working lesson
The treaty appeared as a loss, but it was a victory. The Prophet ﷺ knew what ‘Umar did not. Trust the leader who follows Allah.
A lesson is not the same as historical fact or a religious ruling.
Reflection / For Today
Sometimes what seems like a loss is a blessing in disguise. Do not judge by appearances.
Deeper revisit — recovered working copy
Reminder: The Muslims were to return Quraishi converts. Abu Jandal, Suhayl’s son, came in chains and was returned.
Revisit context: The Muslims wept. They had come for ‘Umrah and were going back without it.
Working reflection: The Prophet ﷺ ordered the Muslims to shave their heads and sacrifice their animals. They hesitated. Umm Salamah advised him to go first. He did, and they followed.
Working practical step: When a difficult decision is made, support it even if you disagree. Do not cause dissension.
Journey reflection: Within two years, Makkah fell peacefully. The treaty was the greatest victory.
