Recovered historical report
The Prophet ﷺ led an expedition against Banu Mustaliq, who were preparing to attack Madinah. The Muslims surprised them, and the enemy fled. Many captives were taken, including Juwairiyyah, the daughter of the chief. She proposed a ransom to the Prophet, who instead married her. The Muslims then freed her relatives, and the entire tribe embraced Islam. On the return journey, a dispute broke out between a Muhajir and an Ansari. ‘Abdullah bin Ubayy, the chief hypocrite, said, “When we return to Madinah, the more powerful will expel the weaker.” The Prophet ﷺ heard of it and confronted him, but did not punish him to avoid fitnah.
