Recovered historical report
After the Battle of the Trench, the Prophet ﷺ sought to punish Banu Lahyan, who had killed ten Companions in a previous mission. However, Allah informed him that Banu Lahyan had fled. Meanwhile, a delegation from the tribe of ‘Adal and al-Qarah came to Madinah, claiming to have embraced Islam. They asked the Prophet ﷺ to send teachers to instruct their people. He sent ten Companions, led by ‘Asim bin Thabit. The delegation had lied. They were from the tribes of Banu Lahyan, who ambushed the teachers. Eight were killed; two were captured and later executed. The attackers mutilated the bodies. The Muslims were devastated.
