Recovered historical report
The Muslims dug the trench for days. The Prophet ﷺ worked alongside them, carrying dirt on his back. Each group of ten was assigned a 40-foot section. The weather was bitterly cold, and food was scarce. The men tied stones to their stomachs to suppress hunger. The Prophet ﷺ had two stones tied. A massive rock could not be broken. The Prophet ﷺ struck it with a pickaxe; a spark flew. He said, “I have been given the keys to Syria.” He struck again; another spark. He said, “I have been given the keys to Persia.” A third spark: “I have been given the keys to Yemen.” He gave glad tidings of future conquests while digging a trench in hunger.
