Recovered historical report
After the Hijrah, the Muslims were initially forbidden to fight. Then Allah gave permission: “Permission to fight is given to those who are wronged.” The Prophet ﷺ began sending small expeditions (saraya) to intercept Quraishi caravans, to weaken their economy and to train the Muslims. The first raid was led by ‘Ubaydah bin al-Harith; the first arrow was shot by Sa‘d bin Abi Waqqas. The first successful raid was by ‘Abdullah bin Jahsh, which occurred during a sacred month, causing controversy until Allah clarified that persecution is worse than killing.
