Recovered historical report
For 16–17 months, the Muslims prayed facing Jerusalem. The Prophet ﷺ longed to face the Ka‘bah, the qiblah of Ibrahim. Allah revealed: “Turn your face toward al-Masjid al-Haram.” The change was a test. The Jews criticised, saying Muhammad reverted to the qiblah of idolaters. The hypocrites said he didn’t know what he was doing. The believers obeyed immediately. While praying ‘Asr, some Sahaba heard the news and turned mid-prayer toward Makkah.
