Recovered historical report
When Quraish learned of the Ansar’s pledge, they plotted to kill the Prophet ﷺ. They chose a strong young man from each clan to strike simultaneously, so blood would be shared and revenge impossible. Allah revealed the plot. The Prophet ﷺ told ‘Ali to sleep in his bed while he left. He and Abu Bakr escaped through a back window and hid in the Cave of Thawr for three days. The Quraish searched everywhere. At the cave’s mouth, Abu Bakr panicked, but the Prophet said, “Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us.” A spider wove a web over the entrance, and a dove nested, convincing the pursuers that no one was inside.
