Recovered historical report
After Ta’if, the Prophet ﷺ began presenting himself to Arab tribes during the Hajj seasons. He would go to their camps and say, “Say La ilaha illallah, and you will succeed.” Many tribes rejected him. One tribe, Banu ‘Amir bin Sa‘sa‘ah, offered allegiance but asked for power after him. The Prophet refused, saying power belongs to Allah. Their wise old man later rebuked them, saying, “None of the descendants of Isma‘il ever claimed prophethood falsely. You have missed a great opportunity.”
