Recovered historical report
Persecution intensified. The Prophet ﷺ told a group of Companions to migrate to Abyssinia, where the just Christian king An-Najashi (Negus) ruled. Twelve men and four women went first, then 83 men and 18 women later. Quraish sent ‘Amr bin al-‘As and ‘Abdullah bin Abi Rabi‘ah with gifts to demand their return. Ja‘far bin Abi Talib spoke eloquently, reciting Surah Maryam. The king wept and refused to hand them over. When ‘Amr later claimed the Muslims insult Jesus, Ja‘far said, “We say he is the servant of Allah and His Messenger.” The king said, “There is no difference between what you say and what I say.”
