Recovered historical report
The Quraish decided to rebuild the Ka‘bah after a fire and flood weakened it. They used only lawful money. When they reached the Black Stone, each clan wanted the honour of placing it. They nearly fought. They agreed that the first person to enter the mosque would decide. That person was Muhammad ﷺ. He placed the Black Stone on a cloth, asked each clan leader to hold an edge, and then he lifted it and placed it himself. This averted war.
