Khadijah bint Khuwaylid, a wealthy and noble businesswoman, heard of Muhammad’s honesty and hired him to trade in Syria. Her servant Maysarah returned praising his character. Khadijah proposed marriage through a relative. The Prophet ﷺ was 25; she was 40. She bore him six children: Zainab, Ruqayyah, Umm Kulthum, Fatimah, Al-Qasim, and ‘Abdullah. He remained married only to her until her death 25 years later. He never married another while she lived. He loved her deeply, and even years after her death, he would send gifts to her friends.
