The Prophet ﷺ was born in the Year of the Elephant. His father ‘Abdullah had died before his birth. His mother Āminah named him Muhammad. His grandfather ‘Abdul Muttalib named him Muhammad – a name not common among Arabs – hoping he would be praised. He was nursed first by his mother, then by Umm Ayman (an Abyssinian slave-girl), and later by Halimah Sa‘diyah of the tribe of Banū Sa‘d. Halimah saw immediate blessings: her dried-up camel gave abundant milk, her weak donkey became the fastest, and the barren land flourished.
