Recovered historical report
Seventy Muslims were martyred at Uhud. Among them was Hamzah, the Prophet’s uncle and the “Lion of Allah.” Hind, Abu Sufyan’s wife, had ordered Wahshi, an Abyssinian slave, to kill Hamzah. Wahshi speared him from behind. Hind then mutilated Hamzah’s body, cutting his ears and nose, and tried to eat his liver. The Prophet ﷺ was devastated. When he saw Hamzah, he said, “I have never been angrier than today.” But he did not mutilate the enemy in revenge. He said, “I will be patient.” The martyrs were buried where they fell.

Reminder: Wahshi later became Muslim and was forgiven. The Prophet ﷺ did not hold a grudge.
Revisit context: Even the killer of Hamzah was forgiven when he embraced Islam.
Working reflection: The martyrs of Uhud are alive with their Lord. Do not say they are dead.
Working practical step: Visit a cemetery (or imagine it) and make du‘a for the deceased Muslims.
