Recovered historical report
The battle began with a duel. Talhah, the standard-bearer of the Quraish, was killed by ‘Ali. The Muslims, inspired by the Prophet’s presence, pushed the Quraish back. The Quraish fled, and their women were seen running, their anklets visible. The Muslim archers on the hill saw the booty being collected and disobeyed the Prophet’s order not to leave. They said, “The battle is over. Let us get our share.” Their leader, ‘Abdullah bin Jubair, reminded them, but only a few stayed. Khalid bin al-Walid (not yet Muslim) saw the hill empty and circled around with his cavalry, attacking the Muslims from behind.
