Recovered historical report
News of Badr reached Makkah. Abu Lahab was humiliated. He sent someone to fight in his place, then fell ill and died a week later. His body was left to decompose because his sons feared the disease. The Quraish eventually covered him with stones. The Muslims returned to Madinah in victory. The prisoners were ransomed or freed. Zainab, the Prophet’s daughter, sent a necklace to ransom her husband Abul ‘As. The Prophet saw the necklace of his late wife Khadijah and was moved; he released Abul ‘As without ransom on condition that he send Zainab to Madinah.
