One night Angel Jibreel appeared, embraced him three times and commanded "Iqra!" The Prophet replied "I am not a reader." Then these five verses poured forth. He ran home trembling to Khadijah RA, who wrapped him and reassured him: "Allah will never disgrace you — you maintain family ties, bear others burdens, and stand by the truth."
