Write for the next responsible person
A handoff should be findable and current. Store current status, next action, owner, evidence and dependencies where the next responsible person can access them within the governed scope.
State scope before conflict
Client and team relationships are safer when deliverable, timeline, dependencies, price/compensation where applicable, exclusions and change process are explicit before pressure arrives.
Out-of-scope does not mean silent absorption
When a request exceeds scope, name it and choose: include, estimate a change, move it to a future phase, decline, or refer for professional/legal/HR review. Quietly absorbing repeated extra work creates later conflict and false expectation.
Role and credential claims need separate evidence
Applicant, participant, contributor, volunteer, employee, contractor, adviser, professional, partner, project originator/co-builder and certified person are different states. A professionalism course or template does not move a person between those states.
Reflection
Questions to sit with
- Could another person continue this work from the handoff?
- What is explicitly outside scope?
- Which role/credential wording needs evidence or agreement?
